2 phd positions and 1 18-month postdoc are available in our lab at the ONERA in Salon de Provence, France

The successful candidates will join the Cognitive Engineering and Applied Neurosciences (ICNA) group. The candidates may be led to travel to Marseille since some of the studies will be conducted at the Institut de Neurosciences de la Timone.

The ICNA is a highly interdisciplinary research unit at the ONERA in Salon-de-Provence, with expertise in applied mathematics, engineering, cognitive sciences and human factors. It is a very dynamic group composed of 13 permanent researchers, 10 PhD students, 3 post-docs and several interns. The working languages are French and English.

PhD on confidence

The successful candidate will work on studies of perceptual decision-making and confidence. The aim of the PhD is to decode perceptual confidence from EEG signals. Research methods include psychophysics, EEG and eye-tracking. The project is a collaborative effort with 8 other labs throughout Europe. S/he will be supervised by Dr. Andrea Desantis and Dr Guillaume Masson (CNRS researcher at the Institut de Neurosciences de la Timone) and will work in collaboration with other members of the ICNA team.

The successful candidates will receive interdisciplinary training in theories and methods for the study of decision confidence. This includes many network-wide events and other (international) training opportunities.

Candidates should have a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in neuroscience, computer science, cognitive science, or related fields. Previous experience with computer programming is highly preferred. Experience with visual psychophysics, EEG, eye-tracking, and/or machine learning is a plus.

Candidates must comply with the Marie Curie Actions rule for mobility, which holds that they have spent no more than 12 months of the past 3 years in France.

PhD on agency and perception

The successful candidate will work on studies investigating the influence of voluntary actions on perceptual decision-making. Research methods include psychophysics, EEG and eye-tracking. S/he will be supervised by Dr. Andrea Desantis and Dr Alexandre Zenon (CNRS researcher at INCIA Bordeaux) and will work in collaboration with other members of the ICNA team. A stay at INCIA in Bordeaux is possible.

Candidates should have a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in neuroscience, computer science, cognitive science, or related fields. Previous experience with computer programming and psychophysics is highly preferred. Experience with EEG, eye-tracking, and/or machine learning is a plus.

Postdoc on agency and perception

The successful candidate will work on studies investigating the impact of actions on sensory processing and learning. Research methods include psychophysics, EEG and eye-tracking. S/he will be mentored by Dr. Andrea Desantis, Dr. Jean-Christophe Sarrazin (ONERA) and Dr. Alexandre Zenon (CNRS researcher at INCIA in Bordeaux). A stay at INCIA in Bordeaux is possible.

Candidates should have a PhD in neuroscience, computer science, psychology, cognitive science, or related fields, and no more than 3 years postdoctoral experience. Programming experience (Matlab, Python) is required as well as experience with psychophysics. Prior experience with the topic, EEG and eye-tracking is a plus.
